2015 Caterham Seven 620 R

Caterham, an English manufacturer known for its racing cars, has upped its speed game with the 2015 Seven 620 R – touted as its fastest road car ever made. Going from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.79 seconds and reaching a top speed of 155 mph, it’s hard to argue with that claim.

Previously, the R500 was Caterham’s definitive automotive offering, and that speed demon topped lap time charts left and right and garnered tons of praise. Times change, however, and other manufacturers came out with competitive products, creating a need for something even faster for Caterham to stay on top of its game. Thus, the Seven 620 R was born.

The Seven 620 R shares the same setup for a 2.0-L Ford Duratec engine with a dry sump as its R500 predecessor, but Caterham engineers supercharged it. Paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox, the Seven 620 R can put out a whopping 310 bhp. If this isn’t enough power for you, this animal is available for purchase without the engine, and you can drop whatever you feel is superior inside.

The Seven 620 R’s exterior has been outfitted with tons of ultra-sturdy carbon fiber components molded for both aerodynamics and aesthetics, including its front and rear wings. You will also find carbon fiber pieces on the interior panels and dash.

The nose of the Caterham Seven 620 R has been optimized for air flow, which further contributes to its speed on and off the track. Other features worth noting are the racing-grade cooling package, De-Dion rear suspension system, high-performance dampers, and 13″ alloy Apollo wheels with Avon ZZR tires. Prices for the Seven 620 R start at just under US$ 73.000 and go up with the addition of optional features.
