Ariel
Atom 3S Turbo
TMI
AutoTech, the sole official US importers of the physics-defying Ariel Atom,
have put their talents to good use and developed a a high-performance version
called the Ariel Atom 3S Turbo.
The
Ariel Atom 3S Turbo, which will be sold alongside the standard Ariel Atom 3, is
powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.4 litre Honda engine which produces
365 horsepower. Additional radiators have been neatly integrated within
aerodynamic side pods just ahead of the rear wheels.
But
it’s not just the extra power which makes the Atom 3S Turbo so appealing. It
also has a number of other features which help elevate its performance further
still.
On
the dash is a new switch, it controls a brand new traction control system with
five settings. The system goes all the way from nothing, up to a level which
does its best to stop the tires being shredded at every launch.
The
brakes have also been upgraded on the Ariel Atom 3S Turbo. The units used are
Alcon 4-piston calipers at all four corners, and 2-piece floating brake discs.
The setup is designed to provide a progressive brake feel through the pedal and
maximum stopping power even during track sessions.
The
Atom 3S Turbo is offered with three different transmission options – standard,
close ratio, or a new Sadev 6-speed sequential unit with steering wheel mounted
paddles for going up and down the gears.
Pricing
for the Atom 3S Turbo starts at US$ 89,975. Options including carbon fiber
bodywork, interior upgrades, suspension upgrades, and track day equipment soon
push the price higher.
