BYD Tang
If
you ever wonder who has the most powerful hybrid SUV, the answer is BYD. The
Chinese EV maker has officially introduced the new BYD Tang, which is dubbed as
a dual mode electric SUV, in China. The Tang takes inspiration from the Tang Dynasty,
which is said to be the most prosperous of all the great Chinese Dynasties.
According
to reports, the Tang features a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with an output of
205 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The mill is combined with two electric motors, each
packing 150 hp and 200 Nm, resulting in a total system output of 505 hp and 720
Nm. Performance-wise, the Tang sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5
seconds, is driven on all four wheels, and consumes less than 2
litres of fuel per 100 km – hence the 5-4-2 badging on both sides of the car.
The
Tang will be offered in two special edition models, in addition to the standard
variant. The Limited is merely a kitted-up variant, featuring red alloy wheels
and special interior trim while the Ultimate Edition is dressed in full wide
body kit and gets from 0 to 100 km/h faster by half a second.
BYD plans to
build only 98 examples of the Limited and 200 examples of the Ultimate Edition.
