2016
Cadillac Green Engine Line-up
Cadillac has announced
that its cars for MY2016 will be having more fuel-saving technologies and have
reduced CO2 emissions. More efficiency will be achieved by incorporating
technologies such as Active Fuel Management, Automatic Stop/Start and use of
new 8-speed transmission.
Cadillac says that its
new 3.6-liter V6 engine can shut down two cylinders in light-load conditions,
and become a four-cylinder unit without affecting performance. This engine will
be offered in the 2016 Cadillac CTS and 201 Cadillac ATS. The V8 engine of the
2016 Cadillac Escalade SUV and 2016 Cadillac CTS-V sedan will turn into a four
pot under daily driving conditions.
The automaker claims
that its twin turbo-powered 2016 Cadillac CT6 prestige sedan will be the only
six-cylinder engine that combines turbocharging with cylinder deactivation and
AutoStop (automatic stop/start) technology. AutoStop reduces consumption and
fuel efficiency by turning off the engine when the car is stationary, but is
automatically re-started when the brake pedal is released.
Cadillac’s AutoStop
system differs from conventional systems by not relying on the battery to crank
the engine. Instead, it draws power from an alternate voltage stabilization
system that is powered by ultracapacitors. This `results in quicker and
smoother restarts while simultaneously reducing strain on the electrical
system.
The new 8-speed
transmission is also contributes in fuel efficiency improvemement. All these
updates have resulted in reduction of CO2 emissions by 6% on 2016 ATS and 2016
CTS.
