Kia K5 Hybrid
The 2016 Kia K5 (Kia
Optima) Hybrid has been officially revealed in South Korea as the conventional
petrol-electric hybrid variant of the fourth generation 2016 Kia K5 (2016 Kia
Optima). The 2016 model is the mid-size hybrid sedan’s second innings following
its introduction at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The 2016 Kia K5 Hybrid,
the conventional hybrid variant gets a distinctive front fascia with unique
upper and lower grilles and mildly tweaked bumper and air inlets. The hybrid
variant gets an Active Air Flap mounted on the radiator grille that
automatically closes the grille at high speeds to minimise air resistance.
On the sides, the
chrome fender grille has been replaced by an “ECO hybrid” badge which is
accentuated with a blue surrounding. Two aerodynamic wheel designs are
available, one in 16-inch size and one in 17-inch size.
At the rear, the bumper
has been reworked and given vertical reflectors, while the tailpipe seems to
have been tucked behind. An “ECO hybrid” badge has been emblazoned on tailgate
as well.
The hybrid system of
the 2016 Kia K5 (2016 Kia Optima) features a 2.0-litre GDI naturally aspirated
four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 156 PS (154 hp) and 19.3 kg.m (189
Nm) of torque, and is assisted by a 38 kW (51 hp) electric motor. This is the
same hybrid system offered in the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The hybrid system
is linked exclusively to a 6-speed automatic transmission. CO2 emissions figure
can be as low as 91 g/km and the combined fuel economy figure can be achieved
17.5 km/l. The hybrid car weighs 1,580 kg (1,600 kg with 17-inch wheels).
The 2016 Kia K5 Hybrid
has been priced from ₩ 29,530,000 in South Korea.
