Rover Evoque Convertible
Range Rover
has unveiled the first luxury compact SUV in their lineup. The Evoque
Convertible, will be available in two trims, SE Dynamic and HSE Dynamic, which
will go on sale from Spring of 2016.
The
convertible provides seating space for four occupants and is the production
version of the concept that was first unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
The highlight of the exterior is the fabric roof with a Z-folding mechanism
that is said to neatly fit into the rear bodywork giving a sleek appearance. It
is claimed to be the longest and widest roof fitted to any vehicle currently on
sale. The automated roof can be opened or closed in 21 and 18 seconds
respectively; at speeds of up to 30 mph (48.28 km/h).
On the inside,
the Evoque Convertible gets the new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system
that can be worked using a 10.2-inch touchscreen display featuring door-to-door
navigation and 3G connectivity. Taking
care of entertainment is a premium sound system, whose performance is further
improved with the roof that is designed to provide high acoustic insulation.
Power comes
from both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol unit is a 2.0-liter Si4 capable
of 237 hp, while the 2.0-liter diesel engine is from the Ingenium range and
produces 178 hp. Both engines come mated to the 9-speed automatic gearbox
sending power to all four wheels. The convertible comes with systems such as
Terrain Response, Wade Sensing and All-Terrain Progress Control.
In the
unfortunate case of a rollover safety is provided by a Roll-Over Protection
device that deploys two aluminium bars hidden in the rear bodywork within 90
millieconds.
