M550d by VOS
Vision
of Speed (VOS) has introduced what can be best described as an M5 diesel
equivalent. High-performance diesels belong to a niche market, but that hasn’t
stopped VOS from working on one of the segment’s most representative models,
the BMW M550d. With 381 PS and 740 Nm on tap, the
tri-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine has enough diesel muscle in standard
configuration. For those very few with a thirst for more power, Vision of Speed
is asking € 2,290 to take the output level to 450 PS and 800 Nm.
If
you are not willing to pay that much, a lesser package consisting of custom
downpipes costs € 899 and adds 15 PS. Those who want to go all out can
also specify the 20-inch AEZ wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 245/35 R20
front and 275/30 R20 rear tires available as a full set for a cool € 2,490. On
the goodies list you will also find Brembo brakes for another € 2,695 and
H&R performance springs lowering the car by 35 mm for an extra € 499.
While
the standard BMW M550d xDrive comes with an electronic speed limiter programmed
at 250 km/h, this unrestricted version from VOS will reach a top
speed of more than 300 km/h. There’s no word about the 0-100 km/h sprint time, but it should take a few ticks of a second less than
the 4.7 seconds needed by the stock car.
