2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 HPE575
Not content to leave well enough alone,
Hennessey Performance Engineering has added more power to the already potent
2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. While Hennessey is known for adding big power
via forced induction, the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 HPE575 makes more
power via naturally aspirated methods.
Where the stock 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby
GT350 and 350R coupe’s 5.2-liter Voodoo V-8 makes 526 hp at 7,500 rpm and 429
lb-ft of torque at 4,750 rpm, Hennessey has boosted power to a
flywheel-estimated 575 hp at 7,700 rpm and 511 lb-ft at 4,600 rpm. That’s an
increase of 49 hp (at 200 rpm higher) and 82 lb-ft (at 150 rpm lower) than the
stock engine. Peak horsepower is still well below the engine’s stock 8,250-rpm
redline.
Power increases come via better
breathing through stainless steel long-tube headers with 1.75-inch primaries
and a stainless steel exhaust mid-pipe with high-flow catalytic converters.
Hennessey ties the new high-flow exhaust bits together with an HPE engine
management upgrade and chassis dyno tune as well as a 100-mile road test.
Hennessey will also change the oil and
filter with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic oil and provide a full tank of
Shell V-Power Nitro+ 93 octane gasoline.
Hennessey’s estimated flywheel power
figures are based on before and after chassis dyno testing. Customers will also
receive a before and after dyno graph showing horsepower and torque at the rear
wheels.
In dyno testing, a stock
2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 made 467 hp at 7,200 rpm and 374 lb-ft, while
the carbon fiber wheel-equipped Shelby GT350R made 471 hp at 7,200 rpm and 376
lb-ft.
Other bits include the requisite visual
enhancements, including a rear Hennessey exterior badge, HPE575 Powered by
Hennessey badges on the sides and rear, Hennessey HPE575 serial-numbered
interior plaque signed by John Hennessey, Hennessey HPE575 serial-numbered
engine bay plaque signed by the HPE technician who worked on the car, and a
serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity signed by John Hennessey. A set of
“Powered by Hennessey” floor mats and a free lifetime membership in the
official Hennessey Vehicle Registry (HVR) are also included.
The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350
HPE575 naturally aspirated upgrade is priced at US$ 6,950 including installation
and a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. Do-it-yourself customers can mail order the
parts for US$ 4,995 plus shipping without installation or warranty.
Hennessey will build just 100 examples
of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 HPE575 for the 2016 model year with each
vehicle having a unique XXX of 100 Hennessey serial number.
