2016 VW UK Lineup
Volkswagen has announced a series of
updates for the 2016 model year Polo, Golf and Passat range, in Britain.
The supermini gains a new Match version,
replacing the SE trim level, available in three- and five-door body styles,
with standard features including the cruise control, front fog lights with
cornering function, front and rear parking sensors, tinted rear windows and 15-inch
Stratford alloy wheels. The Polo starts from a recommended retail price of
£ 12,735 (US$ 18,963).
All Polo models are equipped with
standard Hill Hold, Automatic-Post Collision Braking System and ESC, while the
City emergency Braking and Driver Alert System are available as options.
The engine range available for the
current Polo includes the 1.0-liter MPI 3-cylinder units with 60 PS or 75 PS, a
1.2-liter four-cylinder rated at 90 PS or 110 PS and a 150 PS 1.4-liter TSI.
Diesel options include the 3-cylinder 1.4-liter TDI, producing 75PS and 90 PS,
while the range-topping GTI has a 1.8-liter TSI under its hood, with 192 PS.
The seventh-gen VW Golf was updated too,
with the Golf GT Edition and Golf R-Line Edition. The Golf GT Edition replaces
the GT trim level and gains 18-inch Durban alloy wheels and panoramic sunroof,
an additional £ 1,795 (US$ 2,673) worth of equipment, and it starts from £ 23,915
(US$ 35,611), £ 300 (US$ 447) more than its replacement.
The Golf R-Line Edition comes as a
replacement for the R-Line trim and it includes £ 1,730 (US$ 2,576) worth of extra
equipment, such as the panoramic sunroof and 18-inch Serron alloy wheels,
starting from £ 24,860 (US$ 37,018), £ 250 (US$ 372) more than before. The models will
arrive in UK showrooms in early 2016.
The new Passat received a revised SE Business trim level
that replaces the SE spec and offers standard features such as front fog
lights, electric folding side mirrors, tinted rear windows and the Discover
Navigation system. The automaker states that the amount of extra
"goodies" totals £ 555 (US$ 826), for just £ 100 (US$ 149) more than the
outgoing SE.
