2017 VLF Destino
A new and radical interpretation of the
Fisker Karma has made its public debut in Detroit: the VLF Destino. Henrik Fisker is the head of design and product strategy at VLF automotive and, besides being
in charge with different parts of development, he also promised to sign each
car.
The new VLF Destino is basically the
same vehicle introduced a couple of years ago, only it received some minor
updates, to give it a fresher look. Still, despite the revisions, it's very
easy to spot the Fisker Karma, on which it is based.
The performance four-door and four-seat
GT has an aluminum body and space frame and it is 4,988 mm long, 1,986 mm wide and 1,330 mm tall, weighing 1,950 kg.
Its creators mention the optional carbon fiber roof, large 22-inch wheels,
wrapped in 265/30 and 305/30 tires, and the array of exterior colors and
leather upholstery.
The VFL Destino carries a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine,
straight from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, which promises to deliver an
impressive 638 hp at 6,500 rpm and 819 Nm of torque at
3,800 rpm, via an automatic transmission, as the firm states. It allows the
rebadged Karma to go from 0 to 96 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and top out at 322 km/h.
Performance, and especially exclusivity,
do not come cheap as the VFL Destino has a starting price of US$ 229,000, which is
approximately twice the cost of the original Karma. Each vehicle will be
manufactured at a factory in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
