UM
Xtreet R
US
based UM Motorcycles made its Indian debut at the 2014 Auto Expo and showcased
a host of products ranging from naked to cruiser bikes. The products will hit
the market soon in the 150cc and above mass market space rivalling the likes of
Bajaj, Honda, Hero, TVS and Yamaha. One of the more sporty offerings in the
automaker’s lineup, the UM Xtreet R recently received updates for the 2015
model year with a host of striking and aggressive elements along with a revised
powertrain. The UM Xtreet R competes in the 150-180 cc segment which includes
the Bajaj Pulsar 180, TVS Apache 180, Honda CB Unicorn and Yamaha FZ-16.
Interestingly though, UM says that the Xtreet generates 22 percent more power
than the Yamaha FZ as per their internal tests.
As
per the tests conducted on a dynamometer at UM’s internal testing facility, the
Xtreet R generated 14.02 HP of power as compared to the 11.27 HP produced by
the Yamaha FZ. As per official figures, powering the UM Xtreet R is a 179.9 cc
4-stroke, single-cylinder engine producing 15.4 BHP at 8500 RPM and 13.5 Nm of
torque at 6500 RPM, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. In comparison, the Yamaha FZ
V1 uses a 153 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine producing 13.8 BHP at 7500
RPM and 13.6 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM, paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
While
the UM Xtreet gets the definitive edge with higher displacement and power
output, it also needs to be seen if the bike is as effortless as the Yamaha in
terms of riding capabilities. That said, the UM Xtreet brings several new
features to the segment which makes it stand out against competition. You get
the striking new 360-degree LED lights, blind-spot mirrors, keyless anti-theft
system, semi-digital dashboard with auto maintenance records and anti-flat sealant
tyres. At present, the American bike maker is setting up shop in India while
sales can be expected to commence towards the end of this year.
