Hyundai Carlino
At the 2016 Auto Expo,
Hyundai India showcased a concept compact SUV called Carlino. Codenamed HND14,
new Hyundai Carlino is a sub 4 meter SUV which is expected to be launched in
India in Q4 2017.
Hyundai Carlino concept which was
showcased back at the Expo featured swept-back angular headlamps with LEDs,
large front grille, boxy design with muscular wheel arches and large alloys
wrapped in off-road tyres.
The production-spec variant of Carlino
will be a more toned-down variant. We expect it to get a design inspired from
the hugely successful Creta, currently on sale in India. In the render above,
rendering artist Pratyush Rout has given the Carlino projector headlamps, LED
DRLs, fog lights, black grille, stylish alloys, aluminium skid plates, electric
ORVM with turn indicators, and a plastic cladding surrounding the lower part of
the exteriors.
To be positioned below Creta SUV and
above the Elite i20 in the company line-up, Hyundai Carlino will be offered in
a choice of petrol and diesel engine options, probably the same one’s which are
on offer the current Elite i20. These will be in the form of 1.2 liter Kappa2
petrol and a 1.4-liter diesel generating 90 PS and 220 Nm torque.
Once launched, Hyundai Carlino will take
on the likes of Ford EcoSPort, Mahindra TUV300, recently launched Maruti Vitara
Brezza and upcoming Tata Nexon.
Compact SUVs are gaining in popularity
among new-generation of first-time car buyers. Talking about the new Vitara
Brezza, it has already received 2,600 bookings with 24 hours of bookings
opening. Maruti is aiming to produce 1 lakh units of Brezza in the first year,
and eating into 50% of the segment share.
