2017 Citroen C3 WRC
The French company released the first
photos of their 2017 WRC car.
The new C3 WRC enjoys a 55 mm increase in
width thanks to the new FIA regulations that allow more aerodynamic freedom to
the teams. The bodywork now features a front bumper with a splitter, bigger air
scoops, a rear diffuser and the list goes on.
The turbocharged 1.6-litre engine now
makes around 380 hp thanks to the same regulations, with the weight being
reduced by 25 kg and the addition of an electronic center differential improving
traction.
The first test of the new car was
completed on the gravel roads around the Château de Lastours and then in
Fontjoncouse, with Kris Meeke sitting behind the wheel.
“With the power and the aerodynamic
efficiency, these cars are fascinating,” said Kris. “After my first run, one of
the mechanics filmed the expression on my face. I didn’t realize it at the
time, but the big smile on my face spoke volumes about how much I had enjoyed
driving the new car.”
“All the factors we had wanted to
improve – the noise, impression of speed and aggressive design – are already in
evidence, even though this was only the car’s very first test outing,” said
Yves Matton, Team Principal, Citroën Racing. “I think rally fans are going to
like the new generation of WRCs.”
