BMW F700 and F800GS (Update)
The F700 and F800GS ranges have been
given updates for 2017 to bring them into line with imminent Euro4 regulations.
Like the bigger R1200 range, these
changes have been brought about by Euro4 which reduces the noise and exhaust
emissions allowed by a significant margin. Always on sidelights and an On Board
Diagnostics (OBD) light have to be incorporated into the bike too.
The F700GS model has always been aimed
as those wanting a lighter road bike rather than a bike more capable of
off-road use.
The 798 cc water-cooled parallel-twin has
been updated with a new exhaust which also get a new design of stainless steel
silencer. An HP sports exhaust made by Akrapovic has also been redesigned and
will be available as an accessory.
The whole F700GS and F800GS and F800GS
Adventure range also now get ride-by-wire throttle control of the engine which
means they can have rider modes made available. Each bike will have the choice
of pre-programmed Rain, Road, Enduro and Enduro Pro modes to suit the riding
conditions. Enduro and Enduro Pro modes are only available as accessory options
on the F800GS and F800GS Adventure models and are intended for lighter and more
demanding off-road use.
The entire range gets new instruments
which BMW claim are more easily readable. The dashboard also gets a mandatory
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) which warns of something amiss with the
engine. Riding mode information is also displayed on the dash too.
