New Chevrolet Camaro NASCAR XFINITY
Series
This angry looking beast is Chevy’s
latest contender in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, and its official racing debut
will be in February 2017 at Daytona International Speedway.
Xfinity Series is a stock car racing
series owned and operated by the National Association for Stock Car Auto
Racing, and it’s promoted as NASCAR's minor league and a launching ramp for
talented drivers.
Although different from their Sprint Cup
Series counterparts, with a shorter wheelbase, less weight and a less powerful
engine, the Xfinity series vehicles are still capable machines that deliver up
to 700 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque (unrestricted) from a
carbureted 5.8-litre Pushrod V8. You can’t get more old school then
this.
Since the cars respect the same recipe
(mechanical-wise), the manufacturers and the teams fine tweak them (within the
series’ rules) in order to get an advantage on the track. Chevy’s proposal was
refined using computational fluid dynamics analysis, as well as traditional
full- and reduced-scale wind-tunnel development, concentrating on the Camaro
SS’ upper nose and hood.
