2017 Skoda Octavia
The Skoda Octavia range will benefit
from a substantial mid-life update next year, to bring it into line with the
upcoming Kodiaq SUV.
The exclusive image shows how the new
model will look, with an altogether different front end to the one seen on the
Kodiaq. A distinctive LED light signature
will further emphasise the changes, while resculpted bumpers and a Superb-style
grille will complete the revised nose. At the rear, C-shaped LED lamps will
remain on the facelifted version of the Octavia. All these changes will apply to the larger
Estate, too.
The car’s overall dimensions won’t
change, as the bodywork fundamentals won’t get a full makeover until an all-new
version appears before the end of the decade. That means the same practical,
roomy interior, plus an identically big boot. The 2017 facelift will likely see the same engines as in the
current car.
The interior will get a significant
update, with a new 9.5-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration and
support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It could even support gesture
control, for ease of use while driving. Skoda is expected to make use of the VW
Group’s Virtual Cockpit dials, although maybe not from launch. While
quality was never an issue, the brand is expected to offer more soft-touch
plastics to complement the updated infotainment.
We expect to see the new Octavia hit
showrooms in 2017, starting at close to the current car’s £ 16,660 for a base S
with a 1.0 TSI engine. A range-topping 2.0-litre TDI Laurin & Klement could
top £ 30,000 for the first time.
