2017 VW Multivan PanAmericana
At the IAA Commercial Vehicles expo in
Hannover, Volkswagen will showcase no less than 33 different examples of its
new, sixth-generation Transporter van. But the one that's piqued our interest
is the Multivan PanAmericana.
The Multivan
PanAmericana is now entering production essentially as an Alltrack take on the
Transporter in everything but name. It features 4Motion all-wheel drive, an
increased ride height, rugged front and rear bumpers, underbody protection
panels, side sill attachments, and 17-inch alloys.
The PanAmericana treatment also encompasses smoked
taillights, a special grille, and tinted rear windows to keep prying eyes out
of the rear passenger area that features a two-tone seating, diamond-plated
floor, rubber floor mats, Alcantara trim, contrast stitching, and leather
control surfaces.
Buyers will be able to choose from an array of
powertrains including five diesels and two gasoline engines, ranging in output
from 83 horsepower to over 200 hp. Those who like the rugged look but don't
actually plan on taking it off of dry pavement can also opt to keep the
standard ride height and front-wheel drive.
Unfortunately, the PanAmericana
(like the California camper version) isn't actually offered for sale in America
– or at least not in the United States.
