2018 Honda Civic Type R
Honda continues the
development of the next-gen Civic Type R, with Carscoops spies spotting a prototype
this time in Spain where the Japanese hot hatch is undertaking its hot weather
testing.
Based on the 11th
generation Civic, the new Type R will come to the US this time, as Honda wants
to offer a proper performance model here, after years and years of absence.
So the new Type R will
take advantage of the new chassis, while the powertrain will be the same with
the current one, with some upgrades done to it. The turbocharged 2.0-litre
engine is expected to offer a few more horses over today's 306 hp, and will be
mated to Honda’s slick six-speed manual gearbox.
With the current model
often described as one of the best FWD sports cars you can buy right now, it’s
interesting to see what tricks Honda has in store for the new one. Despite the
aggressive bodykit, the three exhaust tips and that rear wing, reports say that
the upcoming Type R will adopt a more restrained look in order to attract more
customers, offering the boldest of the aero elements as options.
Expect to see the new
Honda Civic Type R debuting at the Paris Motor Show in the form of a
near-production concept, with the actual car entering production this fall.
