BMW M2 Convertible
BMW may have denied its
existence but images have just surfaced online showing an M2 Convertible.
Uncovered by Autoblog.nl,
it is claimed that these images are the real, computer-generated deal and have
been somehow lifted from a source within the German marque.
While they appear to show
an M2 Convertible that's ready to roll off the production line, there's a
possibility they were created during internal discussions about the car before
a decision was made to not build the car.
Earlier in the year,
BMW's chief engineer Frank Isenberg claimed that there would be no M2
Convertible.
He said that the firm decided to cater to purists with the M2 and
wouldn't compromise on that by creating a drop-top which would inherently be
softer and less capable on a racetrack. The M235i Cabriolet, he said, is the
best middle ground.
BMW's
position on this has changed. If an M2 Convertible were to launch, it wouldn't
be unprecedented for the firm, following in the footsteps of the M3
Convertibles of yesteryear and the current roofless M4, itself a slightly tamed
version of the M4 Coupe.
