2017 BMW M760i xDrive
BMW introduced the
all-new BMW M760i xDrive at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The
company’s first “M” badged 7-series will be powered by their most powerful V12
engine ever. It will also include a host of innovative electronic systems and features which will
showcase the best BMW has to offer in terms of performance, comfort and safety.
The 6.6-liter M Performance TwinPower Turbo V12 in
the M760i is BMW’s first twin turbocharged V12 engine. It will develop roughly
600-hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque figure of 590-ft lbs. at an
impressively low 1,500 rpm. The all-aluminum block V12 will propel the M760i
from 0 to 62mph in 3.9 seconds (estimated) and to a top speed of 190 mph
(ungoverned), impressive figures considering the performance sedan’s
approximately 5,000 lbs. weight.
All power will be routed through a ZF 8-speed
Steptronic Sport Automatic Transmission, controlled by an M
Performance-specific tuned shifting program. The software—optimized to suit the
characteristics of the V12 engine—will allow the transmission to perform
quicker downshifts, sportier gear changes and even has a Launch Control
function. Steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles will give drivers an
alternative for more spirited jaunts.
The M760i will use a myriad of driver assistance
features to ensure both driver comfort and dynamic driving characteristics. An
active suspension system, called Active Comfort Drive, links the vehicle’s air
suspension system and Dynamic Damper Control system to ensure low vibration
levels. It also manages the springs and dampers to ensure optimal passenger
comfort. BMW’s Dynamic Drive system performs active roll stabilization
electromechanically at the front and rear axles of the newest 7-series,
effectively canceling out body roll.
To complement the M760i’s substantial performance
are a plethora of “M” styling cues, the most important of which are a part of
the M Aerodynamic Package. It features a redesigned front bumper with two large
air intakes, kidney grille bars and active air flap louvers finished in Cerium
Grey, “V12” badging on the C-pillars and 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, both
also finished in Cerium Grey. At the rear, the M sports exhaust system
terminates in Cerium Grey finished tailpipes—shaped specifically for the V12
engine.
Inside, immediately upon
entrance we find door sill plates finished in Fine Brushed Aluminum, harboring
an illuminated V12 logo. M pedals, an M leathering steering wheel and V12 logo
on the center console add the appropriate air of occasion to the M760i xDrive’s
interior. Infotainment is handled by the iDrive 5.0 operating system with touch
screen technology.
The BMW M760i xDrive will go on sale in early 2017
with MSRP to be announced sometime closer to the actual launch date.
