2017 Mazda MX-5 Arctic special edition
Mazda has resurrected an old version
of its MX-5, which will be limited to just 400 examples in the UK
when it goes on sale in February 2017. Dubbed the Mazda MX-5 Arctic, the car
revisits a special edition version of the second generation MX-5 released in
2005, and like that car it offers additional equipment and exclusive design
tweaks.
It’s based on the 1.5-litre, 129 bhp SE-L Nav model,
meaning 0-62 mph in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 127 mph. Each car is finished
in Blue Reflex metallic paint, and wears contrasting silver detailing – the
16-inch alloy wheels, windscreen surround, wing mirrors and headrest hoops are
all finished silver.
Inside, the Arctic package does more of the
same. The cup holder rings are finished in silver, while the car also gains
chromed scuff plates.
It
gets heated leather seats, automatic headlamps, rain sensing windscreen wipers
plus a set of rear parking sensors. These additions are lumped on top of the
standard equipment you’ll get on the SE-L Nav model it’s based on, including a
seven-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system with built in satellite
navigation, cruise control, climate control plus a start-stop button.
The MX-5 Arctic will be priced from £ 20,995 –
slightly more than the £ 20,865 on the road price of the car it’s based on, but
the additional equipment more than makes up the price.
