2017 Volkswagen Tiguan L/Allspace
The first images of a Chinese-market version, badged
as the Tiguan L, have surfaced on autonocion.com ahead of its slated world
premiere at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
The lengthened model looks almost
identical to the standard car, save for longer rear doors – the wheelbase has
been stretched some 110 mm – as well as a rear end that stretches further aft,
with a reshaped C-pillar. Inside, the Chinese-market L doesn’t appear to have
seven seats, the increase in length seemingly only serving to improve rear
legroom and luggage space.
The second-generation Tiguan – which made its debut
at Frankfurt 2015 – is already much larger than the original. The five-seater is
60 mm longer and 30 mm wider than the Typ 5N, with a 77 mm longer wheelbase.
Boot space is up by 145 litres to make 615 litres, or 1,655 litres with the
rear seats folded.
Although the European version of the XL-sized Tiguan
will bear the Allspace moniker, US-market versions will simply be called the
Tiguan, as the regular five-seater won’t be sold there.
