The 2017 Audi A5 Coupe range has arrived in
Australia, with the four-ring brand offering plenty of kit for its two-door,
four-seat, style-focused model.
The three-model Audi A5 range will start off from an
attractive AUD 69,900 for the entry-level
front-drive 2.0TFSI petrol, while the other petrol 2.0TFSI quattro bookmarks
the line-up at the upper end, priced at AUD 81,500. The only diesel model in the
range is the 2.0TDI quattro, at AUD 73,900.
The new models have seen improvements to
their engines, with more power and torque across the range, and better
efficiency thanks to those new engines and the fact the models are all lighter
than their predecessors. The new versions are based on the company’s modular
platform, which also underpins the new-generation Audi A4.
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol entry-level model has
190 hp of power from 4200-6000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1450-5200 rpm.
The entry model’s claimed 0-100 km/h time of 7.3
seconds is more than a second faster than the car it replaces, and instead of
the CVT it has a seven-speed dual-clutch auto, as do all A5 models. It’s still
front-drive, though. Fuel use is claimed at 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres, down
from 6.0L/100km in the existing model.
The higher-spec petrol model with all-wheel drive
has a higher state of tune, with its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder
churning out 252 hp of power at 5000-6000 rpm and 370 Nm from 1600-4500 rpm. Audi
claims it’ll sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5.8sec – down 0.6sec on the model it
replaces – while the claimed fuel use is just 6.5L/100km, down 0.6L.
The diesel all-wheel-drive variant has a 2.0-litre
four-cylinder engine with 190 hp (from 3800-4200 rpm) and 400 Nm (from
1750-3000 rpm), and fuel use is a miserly 4.6L/100km according to Audi, which is
down 0.7L. Audi claims the new model’s punchy diesel engine allows it a sprint
time of 7.2 seconds.
Standard equipment is extensive, including Audi’s
Virtual Cockpit 12.3-inch driver information/media/nav/trip unit fitted in all
models at no cost, while the 8.3-inch dash-top infotainment screen with MMI
Touch rotary dial controller features plenty of goodies like Google Maps
display, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, dual USB ports, Apple CarPlay and
Android Auto, and Audi Connect mobile internet capabilities.
Standard safety kit on the A5 coupe range is
extensive, and includes a rear-view camera, parking sensors all around, city
autonomous emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, tyre pressure
monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert.
There’s also an exit warning system that will alert
you by using the ambient lighting in the door if there’s a
car/motorbike/cyclist coming up beside you, and six airbags (dual front, front
side, full-length curtains). It has received the maximum five-star ANCAP safety
rating, too.
