The 2017 Renault Trafic short-wheelbase van has
received a power boost this week, along with sharp drive-away pricing for a
limited time. With the lower-output 90 hp/260 Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine
now discontinued, the Trafic now features a gruntier 116 hp/300 Nm version of the
1.6-litre oiler, up 26 hp and 40 Nm. Peak power is available at 2500 rpm, with
maximum torque arriving at just 1500 rpm, translating to a power gain of 29 per
cent and a torque bump of 15 per cent.
Despite the power gains, all other features
and specifications of the entry-level van remain the same as the outgoing
model, including the 1235 kg payload and maximum braked towing capacity of
2000 kg. Also available is the more powerful 140 hp/340 Nm twin-turbo version of
the 1.6-litre diesel, which is offered in both short and long-wheelbase
bodies.
Until June 30, the 116 hp single turbo Trafic
short-wheelbase van is on sale from US$ 34,490 drive-away. Following the
promotion, the manufacturer’s list price is US$ 34,990 before on-road costs.
