An odd little electric car is making its way to the
US this month called the e-Moke. It looks like something you would see in
reruns of The Monkees. The original Moke was based on the Mini and while there
are gas version abroad, the e-Moke coming to the US is an electric car.
The vehicle boasts power steering and such niceties
as seatbelts, 14-inch alloy wheels, power steering, mirrors, and a front
bumper. It will be offered in eight colors ranging from basic red, blue, black,
and white to brighter colors like pink and orange as well as a camo pattern.
The EV has a driving range of either 40 or 90 miles
depending on the battery you buy and a top speed of 25 mph. That top speed means
you will raise the ire of anyone who ends up behind you on the streets. Charge
time is 6-8 hours and you can opt for gel or lithium batteries.
The e-Moke
sells for US$ 15,975 plus shipping and you have to plunk down a 50% deposit to
start the build with delivery estimated for the first cars in May or June 2017.
The car does qualify for the federal tax credit in the US for EVs.
