It’s Star Wars Day and what better way to celebrate it than with a limited edition
Mercedes-Benz CLA? Disney’s merchandising machine has enabled Mercedes-Benz Japan to
introduce the CLA 180 Star Wars Edition.
Produced to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the
release of the first film, A New Hope, in 1977, the car is available in two
colours – the first, Calcite White, is meant to mimic the appearance of a
Stormtrooper, while Night Black was designed to channel the look of the iconic
Darth Vader. Only 60 of each will be made.
Both come with the more aggressive AMG Line
appearance package with sportier front and rear bumpers and deeper sills. Also
included is the Night Package that adds gloss black trim on the grille, front
splitter, side sills, door mirrors caps, window line and rear diffuser. The
white model rolls on 18-inch five-split-spoke two-tone AMG alloy wheels, while
the black one is fitted with black multi-spoke AMG items.
Step inside and you’ll find Artico faux leather and
Dinamica microfibre upholstery colour-coded to the exterior. The white car gets
grey and white stripes and silver stitching, which the company says is
reminiscent of Imperial armour. The black one comes with all-black
seats with red stitching and seat belts, with the crimson hue matching the Dark
Lord’s lightsaber.
Standard kit includes powered front seats with
memory, 12-colour ambient lighting and the Radar Safety Package that
incorporates Distronic adaptive cruise control. Both cars also come with a host
of accessories, such as puddle lights projecting the Star Wars logo onto the
ground, Star Wars-branded carpets, a reversible Star Wars sunshade and a drive
recorder that plays R2-D2 noises on startup and shutdown.
Buyers will also receive a custom number plate and
holder, and take a special photo with either R2-D2, C-3PO or BB-8. The price of
all this privilege? A cool 5,040,000 yen.
