Suzuki has launched the Suzuki Ignis in South Africa
with prices starting at R 169,900. South Africa gets its Ignis from Maruti
Suzuki India’s plant in Gurugram which began exports of the car in March with Indonesia.
The Suzuki Ignis is available in two trim levels in
South Africa: GL and GLX. Power windows, remote central lock and MP3 player
with USB port are standard. Safety features include dual-front airbags, ABS and
ISOFIX child seat anchorages. There’s 260 litres of boot space, expandable to
469 litres by folding the rear seat.
The South African-spec Suzuki Ignis is powered by
the K12M 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that
produces 82 hp and 113 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include 5-speed
manual and 5-speed automated manual. The manual transmission model can
accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 11.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 165 km/h.
The AMT model takes 13 seconds to reach from nought to 100 km/h and can further
up to 155 km/h. The fuel economy of the Ignis is rated at 19.61 km/l (MT)/20.41
km/l (AMT).
In South Africa, the Suzuki Ignis competes with the
Mahindra KUV100, VW Up! and Hyundai Grand i10.
