The forthcoming Chevrolet Malibu has been
spotted testing near General Motors’ proving grounds in the United States, and
judging by the amount of camouflage applied, this could be an extensive
revision. The Malibu mule’s front and rear have been just about entirely
concealed, suggesting that the bumpers, light assemblies, quarter panels, and
bootlid and bonnet stand to be redesigned.
Known as a mid-size sedan in its domestic American
market, in more local terms the Malibu slots into the D-segment category
including the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Nissan Teana, Mazda 6, Hyundai
Sonata, and the Kia Optima.
The upcoming Malibu facelift
could feature a 1.6 litre turbodiesel which already serves in the Cruze, and
the existing 250 hp/350 Nm turbo petrol four could carry on here along with the
182 hp Malibu Hybrid.
The details of its interior are similarly
vague, however the facelifted Malibu can also be expected to draw upon recent
models such as the Cruze and the Equinox for design cues, along with the
requisite updates to the infotainment systems to Chevrolet’s latest MyLink
setup. The facelifted Chevrolet Malibu is expected to debut in the first half
of next year as a 2019-year model.
