BMW will reveal the all-new X3 on June
26, at its US-based Spartanburg plant where it will be produced. The new X3
will be based on the company’s CLAR platform, which will not only be lighter by
around 100 kg but will also provide much more efficient packaging from
the outgoing model.
The new BMW X3 will also
benefit from the latest plug-in hybrid powertrains that combine a turbocharged
2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol with an electric motor.
The rest of the range will get a range of more
efficient and more powerful four- and six-cylinder engines, both petrol and
diesel. The latest reports also talk about a range-topping M version which will
used a straight-six turbo, probably sourced from today’s M3/M4, with more than
400 hp. A less-potent M40i version will also be included in the range, powered
by a 3.0-litre straight-six with at least 355 hp.
