Lexus is celebrating its involvement in the upcoming
movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets by taking a closer look at
the SkyJet featured in the film. Jointly created with director Luc Besson and
his design team, the SkyJet is a "single-seat pursuit craft" that
features a spindle grille and headlights that draw inspiration from the Lexus
LC coupe.
Since the film is set 700 years in the future, the
design team had to envision a high-tech interior influenced by Lexus' research
into artificial intelligence and advanced human-machine-interface (HMI)
technologies. Lexus says this could involve everything from simple hand
gestures to the LF-FC concept's hologram technology.
Lexus even influenced the SkyJet's powertrain as it
uses hydrogen fuel cell technology which isn't too far removed from the system
in the LF-FC concept. In a statement, Lexus Chief Engineer said
"Technology will constantly advance and many things far in the distant
future are impossible to be certain of now, however, at Lexus, we continuously
challenge ourselves to imagine them."
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will hit
theaters on July 21st and the film stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and
Clive Owen.
