While much of life in this world may seem
unpredictable, there are some things you can count on. Death, taxes, water
being wet, sky being up, and McLaren will go racing.
Arguably chief among them is the 650S GT3, which
itself replaced the MP4-12C GT3 in second-tier sports-car racing series around
the world. It's already won races in the Blancpain Endurance Series, the Asian
Le Mans Series, and the Bathurst 12 Hour race. But now that the 650S has been
replaced in McLaren Automotive's road-car lineup, it's only a matter of time
before it's phased out in the racing garage as well – and replaced with
something that will probably look something like this.
Rendered by Rain Prisk is a competition-spec version
of the new McLaren 720S – complete with track-scraping ground effects, even
deeper vents, and a giant rear wing that merges with the sharkfin lateral
stabilizer that's been popping up from endurance racing prototypes and F1
racers alike.
They've yet to make their way to GT racers, but that may be only
a matter of time. An even surer bet, though, is that we'll see a new 720S GT3
sometime in the coming months. Then it'll just be a matter of how it performs
on track.
