When Ford announced performance specifications for the 2018 F-150, the company was surprisingly coy about the 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine that will be offered in the truck next spring. Now we're starting to learn more about the engine as Truck Trend is reporting the powertrain will be sourced from Jaguar Land Rover.

Citing an unidentified JLR employee, the publication is reporting the F-150 will use the same 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine that is offered in the Land Rover Discovery. The engine produces 254 hp and 600 Nm of torque in that particular model but it remains unclear if the output will change in Ford's application.

The report goes on to note that JLR recently announced plans to double the size of its Wolverhampton engine plant and hire an additional 700 employees. At the time, JLR said the expansion was needed to keep up with demand but it's possible that Ford's decision to use the engine also played a part in the expansion.

At launch, the 2018 F-150 will be offered with an all-new 3.3-liter V6 that produces 290 hp and 358 Nm of torque. The company will also offer a 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine with 325 hp and 541 Nm of torque as well as a 5.0-liter V8 that develops 395 hp and 541 Nm of torque.
