US versions the facelifted Ford Mustang fitted with
the 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine will gain the tyre warming
electronic electronic line-lock feature as standard. The feature will be fitted
on all Mustang models regardless of whether they are equipped either a
six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.
Electronic line-lock is intended only for use on
racetracks, and was only previously available on V8 Mustangs. The facelifted
Mustang’s 12.0-inch LCD instrument screen also gains a “video-game-like
animation of a spinning alloy wheel kicking up a cloud of smoke” whenever
electronic line-lock is activated.
To promote the availability of electronic line-lock
on EcoBoost Mustang models, the company filmed people off the street trying out
the feature. Engaging line-lock requires the driver to use steering wheel
buttons to access the appropriate menu item. Once started the system builds up
pressure to the front brake callipers.
With another button press, the rear brakes are
disengaged, and pressure on the front brakes is kept for a further 15 seconds,
allowing the driver to mash the throttle and fry up the rear tyres with the car
held safety in situ.
