The 2018 model year line-up for Indian Motorcycles
has been revealed, and there are three new models in the coming year – the
Scout Bobber, Roadmaster Elite and Springfield Dark Horse. For the Indian Chief
and Chieftain range, some models have been revised, and most of the 2018 model
range gets new colours.
Joining the family alongside the current model
Indian Scout is the new for 2018 Indian
Scout Bobber, which carries a 1,133 cc liquid-cooled, DOHC, V-twin. Producing a
claimed a claimed 94 hp and 97 Nm of torque, the Scout Bobber has a bobbed and
foot-forward frame.
Scheduled to be in Indian’s worldwide dealer
showrooms by December, the Scout-series comes in five existing colours – Indian
Motorcycle Red, Thunder Black, Bronze Smoke, Star Silver Smoke and Thunder
Black Smoke. These are joined by two new colours, Metallic Jade and a Willow
Green/Ivory Cream.
Based on customer feedback, the Scout will now come
as standard with a pillion seat with footpegs for a passenger and the existing
telescopic front forks are now replaced with cartridge forks to improve ride
and feel. To improve the handling even further, the Scout will now come with
Pirelli tyres as standard.
With four model variations, the Scout Sixty, with
its 983 cc V-twin and five-speed gearbox, as compared to the six-speeder in the
Scout, comes in two new colours for 2018 – Polished Bronze and Thunder
Black/Titanium Metallic – which join the existing colours of Indian Motorcycle
Red and Thunder Black. Power for the Scout Sixty is rated at 78 hp while peak
torque is claimed to be 88.8 Nm.
On the bagger side of things, the 2018 Indian
Springfield comes in a new colour for 2018 – Metallic Jade over Thunder Black
with Silver pinstripe, which joins the existing paint schemes of Thunder Black
and Steel Gray/Burgundy Metallic. Joining it is the Springfield Dark Horse
which has matte black paint with gloss black details.
The Springfield Dark Horse features an open fender
covering a 19-inch ten-spoke, blacked-out front wheel with quick-release
windshield. Indian’s Springfield models carry the Thunder Stroke 111 V-twin,
which displaces 1,811 cc and produces 161.6 Nm of torque.
Three model variants of the Indian Chief will go on
sale in 2018, the base Chief, the Chief Classic and the Chief Dark Horse. Each
Chief model only comes with one colour in the new year – the Chief with Steel
Gray, the Chief Classic in Burgundy Metallic while the Chief Dark House is
available in Thunder Black Smoke.
For riders wanting the authentic Indian Motorcycle
retro style, the Chief Vintage will suit the bill, now with black leather
saddlebags and seat. The Thunder Black and Star Silver over Thunder Black version
of the Chief Vintage comes with black seat and leather saddlebags, while the
Sky Blue over Pearl White and Willow Green over Ivory Cream versions have the
seat and bags in brown leather. Star Silver and Sky Blue are new colours for
2018.
There are four variants in the Chieftain range, with
the base Chieftain in Steel Gray being joined by the new for 2018 Chieftain
Classic that has a valanced front fender and vintage-style black seat with
three paint schemes – Thunder Black, Indian Motorcycle Red and Star Silver
Smoke. Rounding out the range is the Chieftain Limited, with four new colours
for 2018, Brilliant Blue, White Smoke, Thunder Black Pearl and Bronze Smoke,
which join the existing Thunder Black Pearl scheme.
Also in the Chieftain range is the Chieftain Dark
Horse, which comes in only one colour, Thunder Black Smoke. However, the
Chieftain Dark Horse comes with Indian’s Ride Command on-board smartphone
communications system as standard, and includes a 19-inch front wheel and
exposed fender.
Built for long-distance cruising and mile-munching
is the Indian Motorcycle Roadmaster range, which is made up of the base
Roadmaster, the new for 2018 Roadmaster Elite and the Roadmaster Classic. The
Roadmaster comes in Thunder Black and Burgundy Metallic, while Plished
Bronze/Thunder Blac and PearlWhite/Star Silver are new for next year.
The Roadmaster Classic comes in two colour schemes –
Indian Motorcycle Red and Willow Green/Ivory Cream. As for the range-topping
Roadmaster Elite, this 2018 model comes in a limited production run of 250
units in a hand-painted Cobalt Candy/Black Crystal paint that features 23K gold
leaf badging on the tank.
