Out of the shadows of the Frankfurt Auto Show ,
British automaker Rolls-Royce took a surprising step, debuting a special
one-off edition of the Ghost. The one-off Ghost is called the
Chengdu Golden Sun Bird Edition, and Rolls-Royce designed and inspired by an
ancient Chinese artifact that was discovered in 2001.
In case you don’t know what the Golden Sun Bird is,
it’s described as a ring-shaped piece of foil that was made of nearly pure
gold. Looking at the artifact, you’ll notice a pattern that consists of four
birds, all flying in a counter-clockwise direction around the perimeter with
what looks like a sun on the center.
Apparently, the artifact’s stature as a true
treasure from Shang Dynasty was more than enough to compel Rolls-Royce to build
a one-off model inspired by it. The exterior of the model carries a two-tone
white and gold color, adding prestige and elements of exclusivity that should
justify the name it carries. Subtle gold stripes running on the sides of the
Ghost bear the same bird drawings of the Golden Sun Bird, yet another hat tip
to the old relic. From there, the nine-spoke wheels was redesigned with a
golden circle in the middle, enclosing the brand’s logo in the process.
The interior also gets the same posh upgrades and
modifications, although a golden brown hue as chosen on the fancy leather
upholstery and trim of the cabin. The center console on top of the A/C vents
bear an image of the Golden Sun Bird, same with the headrests on the rear
seats. Finally, a small golden plaque on the door sills was put in, with the
plaque saying "Hand Built in Goodwood, England" and "Chengdu
Golden Sun Bird, One of One" just below it.
