At the Geneva Motor Show, Singapore electric
mobility company Vanda Electrics introduced its Dendrobium electric hypercar
with the suggestion that it could hit the market in 2020.
As is often the case with cars like these, we
expected the intriguing hypercar to simply fade off into the distance and never
be heard of again. However, the Dendrobium was recently filmed on the move near
the headquarters of Williams Advanced Engineering in the UK, indicating that it
may have been given the go-ahead for production.
The example spotted was moving quite briskly and in
total silence, just like all electric cars do. However, the powertrain beneath
the skin of the Dendrobium is unique and promises to be rather insane.
Vanda said the
Williams-developed powertrain uses two inboard-mounted electric motors at each
axle coupled to a single-speed transmission and differential at the front and a
multi-speed gearbox and differential at the rear. No power figures have been
released but there’s apparently enough to accelerate the hypercar to 96
km/h in 2.7 seconds and through to a 320 km/h top speed.
