The 2017 VW Golf family is making its presence felt
at the ongoing 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2017) with the 2017 VW Golf GTI
Performance and 2017 VW e-Golf in attendance.
The 2017 VW Golf GTI Performance’s 2.0-litre TSI
turbocharged petrol engine now produces 15 PS more than that of the
pre-facelift model’s unit. With 245 PS and 370 Nm on tap, the 2017 VW Golf GTI
Performance can do the 0-100 km/h run in 6.2 seconds and go on to hit an electronically
limited top speed of 250 km/h. There are two transmission options available –
6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG. Besides offering more power, it also has larger
brakes and a front differential.
The facelifted VW Golf GTI Performance gets VW’s
Active info display as standard fitment, which replaces the traditional
instrument console with a high-resolution TFT screen. The updated Performance
variant adds features like rain sensor, auto dimming IRVM, and an 8-speaker
Composition Media radio. 17-inch “Brooklyn” alloy wheels with 225 tyres are
also standard on the VW Golf GTI.
The 2017 VW e-Golf comes with increased energy
capacity. Up from 24.2 kWh to 35.8 kWh, this has lead to an increment in the
driving range to 300 km (NEDC). The electric motor’s power and torque figures
have increased by 21 PS and 20 Nm respectively to 136 PS and 290 Nm
respectively. The facelifted e-Golf can accelerate to 100 km/h from a
standstill in 6.9 seconds. The battery pack can be charged to 80% when
connected to a CCS (Combined Charging System) station at 40 kW in just 45
minutes.
Inside, the new VW e-Golf features VW’s 9.2 inch
Discover Pro navigation system with touch support, gesture control and voice
control. Customers can opt for Active Display, which replaces the traditional
instrument console with a 12.3-inch high-resolution TFT screen. The
all-electric variant of the facelifted VW Golf hatchback is now on sale.
