The 2018 Suzuki Jimny will debut at the 2017 Tokyo
Motor Show in the hardtop version. To preview a potential soft-top version,
IAB’s rendering artist Shoeb Kalania has created renderings with a manually
removable roof.
The Suzuki Jimny enters its fourth generation this
year. The redesigned model will continue the tradition of a retro design and
boxy proportions. It will feature a more serious and imposing face while
retaining the 5-slot radiator grille. The exterior design changes, already
revealed in leaked images, will make the all-new model look brawnier.
A leaked interior image has shown that 2018 Suzuki
Jimny will have the latest (Suzuki) design three-spoke steering wheel, a modern
touchscreen infotainment and retro-themed instrument panel. The simplistic
dashboard layout shows that Suzuki has intended a no-frills, maximum utility
approach.
The Suzuki Jimny will continue with a ladder-frame
chassis through its fourth generation, which means it will once again offer
solid off-road capability. The all-new model will feature the ALLGRIP PRO AWD
system, a report said last year. Engine specifications are currently unknown,
but one can expect a variety of options ranging from 0.66- to 1.4-litre. Suzuki
may decide to refrain from offering its new BOOSTERJET engines to keep the
prices attractive.
Another report last year said that Suzuki will make
India the global production hub for the fourth-gen Suzuki Jimny. According to
this report, Suzuki will make the UV at its Gujarat plant. However, local
reports suggest Japanese launch is scheduled in February 2018, and this could
mean that the UV’s production will continue at the Iwata plant (Japan).
