BMW’s hot new i3S has been revealed to the world at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show. While it’s not the most attractive model on BMW’s stand, it certainly adds some style to the facelifted i3.

The visual differences between the regular i3 and i3S are minor but the latter does adopt a set of slightly larger horizontal fog lights and a more aggressive front bumper. Additionally, it rolls on a set of distinctive wheels and in show guise adopts a red and black two-tone paint scheme.

Beneath the updated bodywork, the i3S utilizes an updated electric motor delivering 184 hp and 269 Nm of torque. This is enough to accelerate the car to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 160 km/h.

Further changes welcomed by the sporty i3 variant include revised suspension components and wider wheels. Order books for the i3S and the facelifted i3 have been opened in numerous markets, including the UK where the base i3 starts at £ 34,070 (US$ 45,347) and the i3S from £ 36,975 (US$ 49,213).
