Porsche has uncovered the most extreme version of
the new generation Cayenne yet, which bears the Turbo moniker. It uses the
brand's 4-liter V8 biturbo engine that feeds 550 PS and 770 Nm of torque to the wheels, through a new 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission.
The new Porsche Cayenne Turbo is 30 PS and
20 Nm of torque more powerful than its predecessor, and it takes 4.1
seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill, or just 3.9 seconds, when
fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Package. Top speed stands at 286 km/h.
Said to combine the best of three worlds - "the
precision of a sports car, the comfort of a saloon, and the adaptability of an
off-road vehicle", the range-topping SUV benefits from an adaptive air
suspension with three air chambers per strut, offering six height levels. These
can be manually adjusted for different terrain conditions and can be also
actively controlled via the five new driving modes for road and off-road
driving.
Porsche's range-topping Cayenne can be complemented
by optional rear-axle steering, Dynamic Chassis Control roll stabilization, which
is fed by the 48-volt vehicle electric system, and Torque Vectoring Plus as
well.
An important component of the active aerodynamics is
the adaptive roof spoiler, which optimizes efficiency, increases downforce on
the rear axle, and works as an air brake as well. Stepping firmly on the brakes
at 250 km/h, the Cayenne Turbo comes to rest up to 2 meters earlier as a result, in case you were wondering why you need an air brake on
your new SUV.
The new high-performance brakes feature a tungsten
carbine layer applied to the steel discs to increase performance and resistance
to wear, but buyers can also check the ceramic composite brakes from the
options list.
Bystanders will get to recognize the new Porsche
Cayenne Turbo from its regular siblings thanks to the exclusive front end, LED
headlights that are part of the brand's dynamic light system, 21-inch wheels,
widened wheel arches with painted trims, twin tailpipes, and door trims and
rear apron finished in the same exterior color as the rest of the vehicle.
The Porsche Advanced Cockpit takes center stage
inside, and can be used to display and operate the SUV's functions. Among them
is the 710-watt Bose premium sound system fitted as standard. Users also get to
enjoy the sports seats with integrated headrests and 18-way adjustment, while
the driver gets a heated multifunction sports steering wheel.
Despite being recently unveiled at the 2017
Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo can already be ordered in
several European countries, with prices starting from € 138,850 (US$ 166,471), tax
included, in Germany. The first units will be shipped to customers by the end
of the year.
