Suzuki has two big model debuts coming this year, the 2018 Jimny and Swift Sport. Both future models were
spotted together outside what looks like a parking facility in Japan.
With the MY2018 update, the Suzuki Jimny will enter
its fourth generation. Suzuki has redesigned the Jimny in such a way that it is
still very relatable to the nearly 20-year-old third-gen model. The small UV
will continue having a ladder-frame chassis post the lifecycle makeover. Specifications
are currently unknown, but as the current model, Suzuki could offer it with
three- and four-cylinder engines up to 1.25L in displacement. Leaked images
have revealed that the all-new Jimny will feature a touchscreen infotainment
system and a new three-spoke steering wheel similar to that of the all-new
Swift.
The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport is the third generation
of the budget hot hatch. Sporty aero kit, distinctive radiator grille, unique
alloy 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts, special bucket seats with red
stitching and “Sport” branding, leather-wrapped steering wheel with red
stitching, stainless steel pedals and red highlights on the door panels,
dashboard and centre console and inside the instrument panel are some of the
key features of the all-new Swift Sport.
The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport’s engine is a retuned
version of the Suzuki Vitara’s K14C 1.4L BOOSTERJET unit. The turbocharged
four-cylinder petrol engine puts out 140 PS at 5,500 rpm and 230 Nm of torque
from 2,500-3,500 rpm. 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic are the transmission
choices. Front-wheel drive drivetrain layout is standard. The fuel economy in
the JC08 test cycle is rated at 16.4 km/l (MT)/16.2 km/l (AT).
The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport will go on sale in Japan
on 20 September 2017. The 2018 Suzuki Jimny will follow around February 2018.
