India Yamaha Motor has launched the 2017 Yamaha
MT-09 in the country at an ex-showroom, Delhi price of INR 10,88,122.
The design of the 2017 Yamaha MT-09 is a major
departure from the previous generation bike; which was launched at the India
Auto Expo in 2016. The brand stopped selling the previous generation bike as it
was not BS 4 compliant. Yamaha has developed the 2017 version on the concept of
“multi-performance neo-roadster”, and has design cues borrowed from the bigger
brother, the MT-10.
Powering the motorcycle is an 847 cc in-line
three-cylinder DOHC engine with liquid cooling. The Euro 4 compliant powerplant
makes 115 PS at 10,000 rpm, and 87.5 Nm at 8,500 rpm. The output figures are
the same as the previous generation model. The engine works in tandem with a
6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. A switchable two-mode
traction control and a Quick Shift System are standard.
Suspension bits include an updated front upside down
forks and a rear monocross suspension. The front end features dual 298 mm discs
with radial callipers and a single 245 mm rear disc, both with ABS as standard.
A 120-section front and a 180-section rear wrap the 17-inch alloy wheels. The
fuel tank capacity is 14-litres and the bike weighs 193 kg (wet).
The 2017 Yamaha MT-09 comes via the CBU route, and
is available in three colours- Bluish Gray Solid; Deep Purplish Blue, and Matte
Dark Gray. The bike rivals the 2018 Kawasaki Z900, and the Triumph Street
Triple RS.
