A new entry-level 2018 BMW X3 sDrive20i model has been announced for Australia, following a more affordable new sDrive18i model to the X1 range. Availability of the sDrive20i cuts the price of entry into the new-generation BMW X3 range by AUD 3000, now starting at AUD 65,900 before on-road costs.

For those who prefer petrol engines, the sDrive20i is also AUD 10,000 more affordable than the xDrive30i, previously the only petrol option. Entering below the all-wheel-drive 190 Hp/400 Nm xDrive20d diesel model, the rear-wheel-drive sDrive20i is powered by a 184 Hp and 290 Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine. It is also the first RWD model in the new X3 line-up.


Fuel consumption figures will be confirmed closer to the new variant’s March 2018 on-sale date. For reference, the xDrive20d diesel and xDrive30i petrol models list fuel consumption at 5.7 and 7.6L/100km respectively.

Features and equipment will mirror that of the xDrive20d, with both models fitted as standard with the xLine pack. Highlights include 19-inch alloy wheels, three-zone air conditioning, head-up display, 6.5-inch display with the ‘Business’ satellite navigation and iDrive 6 infotainment. 

Other features standard for the X3 sDrive20i include satinated aluminium exterior trim, LED headlights and daytime running lights, automatic headlights and wipers, an automatic tailgate, cloth/leather combination trim matched to a leather-trimmed Sport steering wheel, Speed Limit Info, and Natural voice control.


Driving Assistant is standard, with approach control warning, lane departure warning and lane change warning. Likewise, Parking Assistant is also featured, with rear-view camera and park distance control.

Optioning the AUD 3500 M Sport pack will add 19-inch BMW M light alloy wheels, M Aerodynamics Package, LED fog lights, BMW Individual headliner in anthracite, ‘Vernasca’ cloth/leather upholstery and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line exterior trim, along with Dynamic Damper Control, Aluminium Rhombicle interior trim with Pearl Chrome finishers, M Leather steering wheel and the Steptronic transmission with gearshift paddles.
