The G4 SsangYong Rexton-based pickup truck, the
‘SsangYong Rexton Sports,’ has been leaked in new spy shots published by
Motorgraph.
The SsangYong Rexton Sports features a slightly
toned-down exterior styling. At the front, its upper grille has only one chrome
slat, and the portion above it is painted in body colour, not in black like in
the 2017 SsangYong Rexton. Instead of LED fog lamps, the Rexton Sports appears
to have halogen fog lamps, in a round shape. The fog lamp enclosures are
bigger. The pickup truck version misses out on chrome bumper garnish and
high-gloss black skid plate as well at the front. Its lower bumper is slightly
different.
The dual-cab pickup truck shows off
its five-double spoke alloy wheels and sports bar. At the rear, the design is
entirely different. Wraparound vertical tail lamps, horizontal light reflectors
on the bumper and prominent ‘Sports’ branding right below the ‘Rexton’
lettering on the tailgate are the noteworthy features here. The interior looks
largely the same as that of the G4 Rexton SUV, but the lack of woodgrain
accents, high-gloss black trim on the steering wheel and brown upholstery does
make the cabin look relatively less luxurious.
SsangYong will offer the SsangYong Rexton Sports in
two versions, one that has a 5 metre-long body and the other that has a 5.4
metre-long body. The latter is expected to have a 400 mm longer load box. Under
the hood, the Rexton Sports has the 2.2-litre e-XDi220 LET diesel engine that
produces 187 PS and 419 Nm of torque. Transmission choices
include 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic. A part-time 4WD system is
expected in the new pickup truck.
The SsangYong Rexton Sports’ market launch in South
Korea will take place in early 2018.
