The traction control system in the new BMW i3S is said to respond 50 times faster than conventional driving stability systems. Adapted specifically to BMW's eDrive system, this new traction control tech improves traction and driving stability in adverse weather and road conditions. It helps during Brake Energy Regeneration, as well as when accelerating out of tight corners.

The secret is having the control process calculated directly in the powertrain instead of in a remote unit, which would require long signal paths.

The benefits of having shorter cycles aren't however reserved just for EVs. According to BMW, their innovative traction control system will optimize traction, driving stability and driving dynamics in models with internal combustion engines as well - which is why it will be fitted to BMW and MINI models with front, rear and all-wheel drive in the future.
