Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced that
the Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 4WD, previously fully-imported (CBU) from Japan,
is now assembled locally (CKD) in Malaysia. The range-topping SUV joins the
entry-level 2.0 litre 4WD model, which was launched in CKD form in October.
Priced at RM 155,000 on-the-road without insurance,
the CKD version is cheaper to the tune of RM 16,000 over the outgoing model, and
is just over RM 15,000 more expensive than the RM 139,988 2.0 4WD variant.
Under the bonnet sits the same 2.4 litre
naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine as before, producing 167 PS at
6,000 rm and 222 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm – 22 PS and 26 Nm more than the 2.0.
Also unchanged is the INVECS-III CVT and Mitsubishi’s Multi-Select four-wheel
drive system with 4WD Eco, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock modes. Mitsubishi claims a
fuel consumption figure of 12.8 km per litre.
The switch to local assembly has brought some
changes to the kit list, including a new eight-spoke two-tone design for the
18-inch alloy wheels (the previous design is still available on the 2.0), a
tailgate spoiler and the new 2-DIN head unit from the 2.0, with a seven-inch touchscreen,
Apple CarPlay compatibility and Air Gesture Control. A 360-degree surround-view
monitor has also been added.
The equipment count remains unchanged, with
the 2.4 getting LED headlights, paddle shifters, a sunroof, an electric parking
brake, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s
seat and a powered tailgate. These go on top of the standard features on all
Outlanders, including fog lights, LED tail lights, keyless entry, push-button
start, auto lights and wipers and dual-zone auto climate control.
Safety-wise, all models get seven airbags, ABS with
EBD and brake assist, Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), hill-start
assist, a Rest Reminder and ISOFIX child seat mounts on the second row, with
the 2.4 also receiving auto brake hold. With the 2.4 now locally-assembled, it
now gets a wide-angle dash cam (170-degree view) as well, previously reserved
for the 2.0.
Colour options for the 2.4 are now identical to the
2.0, with Ruby Black (available only on the PHEV model in other countries)
joining Red Metallic and Solar White, and Grey Metallic dropped from the list.
