The third-generation Porsche Cayenne has made its
regional debut Malaysia after it was first previewed here back in January this
year. As reported then, there will be two variants for customers to choose
from, the base Cayenne and the more powerful Cayenne S.
The base Cayenne is powered by a 3.0 litre
turbocharged V6 engine that serves up 335 hp at 5,300 to 6,400 rpm and
450 Nm of torque at 1,340 to 5,300 rpm. Meanwhile, the Cayenne S gets a 2.9
litre twin-turbo V6 rated at 434 hp at 5,700 to 6,600 rpm and 550 Nm
at 1,800 to 5,500 rpm.
Both variants have their engines paired with an
eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and an active all-wheel drive
system. The latter is linked to a Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system with
variable front/rear torque distribution.
The Cayenne will do 0-100 km/h in
just 6.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 245 km/h. The more powerful S variant
will complete the same sprint slightly quicker at 5.2 seconds, and has a higher
top speed of 265 km/h.
Cars equipped with the Sport Chrono Package will
have 0.3 seconds slashed from their respective century sprint times. The
optional package also includes a PSM Sport mode and Sport Response button, which
optimises the Cayenne for ultra-high responsiveness for 20 seconds.
On the handling side of things, both variants
feature fully independent aluminium multi-links on both axles. The base Cayenne
is fitted with four-piston calipers at the front and two-piston units at the
rear, whereas the Cayenne S gets six-piston front and four-piston rear units
instead. The more powerful of the two also has larger discs at the front (390
mm versus 350 mm).
Other handling-related bits include Porsche 4D
Chassis Control, three-chamber air suspension, rear-axle steering and Porsche
Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). There’s also Porsche Active Suspension
Management (PASM), Porsche Active Aerodynamics and optional Porsche Surface
Coated Brake (PSCB), the last coming with ten-piston front and four-piston rear
calipers.
While the Cayenne is formidable on track, it still
offers some degree of off-road capabilities as well. There are five off-road
modes available, along with a ground clearance of 240 mm, ramp angle of over 21
degrees and a fording depth of 525 mm.
In terms of equipment, the Cayenne comes with the
Porsche Advanced Cockpit, which places two seven-inch displays beside the
analogue tachometer in the instrument cluster. Also present is the latest
Porsche Communication Management infotainment system that is linked to a
12.3-inch touchscreen display.
Other items include LED headlamps, Direct Touch
Control interface on the centre console, leather upholstery, power seats and
Park Assist. For now, we’ve been told the base Cayenne will have an estimated
price of RM 790k, while the Cayenne S goes for RM 940k, also estimated, both with
taxes paid. Official prices will be revealed at a later date.
