It’s a 1966 Ford that was converted in its day
as a Good Humor ice cream truck – and it’s coming up at an auction.
Nearly a hundred years old now, Good Humor is one of
America’s (if not the world’s) best-known ice cream brands, having made its
name selling its frozen treats over the years from the back of trucks like this
one.
The original food truck is powered by a 4.0-liter
straight six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Hardly the most
potent arrangement, perhaps, but plenty of punch to roll slowly down the street
and around the park, chimes a-chiming with little kids running, eyes wide and cash in hand.
The vehicle is just one of 142 classics consigned to
Barrett-Jackson from the John Staluppi “Cars of Dreams” Collection. The
self-made billionaire made his fortune through a massive chain of car
dealerships, and was one of the first in America to recognize the potential of
Asian brands like Honda and Hyundai. In addition to his philanthropic work, he
spent a great deal of his fortune amassing a classic car collection, and at
least as much commissioning some of the most notable super-yachts ever created.
Barrett-Jackson will auction off the collection at
its Palm Beach sale next month at the South Florida Fairgrounds, just across
town from Staluppi’s headquarters, where the bulk of his collection is housed.
