Lincoln has released the first teaser video of the
upcoming Aviator concept. Set to debut at the New York Auto Show on March 28th,
the all-new model will follow in the footsteps of the Navigator and effectively
replace the slow-selling MKT. Little is known about the crossover but is
expected to be based on the redesigned Ford Explorer which will be launched
next year.
Like the Expedition-based Navigator, the Aviator
will have Lincoln-specific styling that echoes its larger brother. The teaser
video doesn’t reveal much but we can see the crossover will have a large grille
with an illuminated Lincoln emblem.
The unique styling will continue in the cabin as we
can expect a luxurious passenger compartment with seating for up to seven
people. Drivers should also find themselves surrounded by premium leather
upholstery, wood trim and the latest SYNC infotainment system.
The mainstream model remains a bit more mysterious
but the crossover could be offered with the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine
that resides in the Lincoln Continental and MKZ. It produces 400 hp and 542 Nm of torque and will reportedly also see service in the new
Ford Explorer ST.
The Aviator is expected to be lauched in 2019 and
slot between the Nautilus and Navigator.
