Mitsubishi listed the all-new Outlander SUV on its
official website back in August 2017 without giving any indication of its
launch timeline. The
new model’s bookings have commenced across Mitsubishi’s dealerships in India
officially but disappointingly it comes only with a petrol engine option when
rival have more buying choices with diesel variants. Priced at Rs. 32 lakh (ex-showroom),
the new-gen Outlander is offered in a single fully-loaded trim for India.
It measures 4,695 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,710
mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. It features 190 mm ground clearance
and has minimum turning radius of 5.3 m. It weighs 1,602 kg and the fuel tank
can hold 60 litres. Built on a monocoque chassis, it is longer and taller than
the forthcoming CR-V.
The seven-seater SUV uses a 2.4-litre MIVEC, 16
valve, DOHC four-cylinder petrol engine producing a maximum power output of 167
PS at 6,000 rpm and 222 Nm of peak torque delivered at 4,100 rpm. Power is
transferred through a six-speed CVT with paddle shifters and onto multi-select
electronically-controlled 4WD system. The SUV is suspended on MacPherson strut
with coil springs and stabilizer bar at front and multi-link with coil springs
and stabilizer bar at the rear. Braking duty is done by ventilated front disc
and solid rear disc and the SUV has electric parking brake with auto hold
function.
The electronically controlled fuel injection system
should help in improved fuel efficiency at around 11 km/l. The 2018 Outlander
is claimed to do standstill to 100 km/h in 11.1 seconds and gains Eco and
Sports modes. Up front, it adorns ‘Dynamic Shield’ design language with plenty
of chrome garnishing, sleeker auto-levelling LED headlamps, integrated LED
DRLs, masculine front bumper, new LED fog lamps with chrome bezels, etc.
Other significant exterior features are LED rear
combination lamp, body-coloured side door garnish, laminated green windshield
glass, electrically foldable body-colour ORVMs, black roof moulding, license
plate garnish, heated door mirror, rain sensing windshield wiper and washer and
high-mounted stop lamp. It is offered in Black Pearl, Orient Red, Cosmic Blue,
Titanium Grey, White Solid, White Pearl and Cool Silver colours. On the inside,
the new model possesses black and beige layout, leather driver seat that can be
power adjustable, three-point passenger seatbelt, 60:40 split foldable and
tumble seats, central armrest with cup holder.
Additionally, it gainsdual-zone automatic climate
control,room lamp with map lamp, electronic power steering, AC air filter,
keyless ignition, piano black trim around the centre console, leather gearshift
knob, anti-trapping electric sunroof and 6.1-inch 2DIN audio system with an
8-channel Rockford Fosgate 710 W premium audio system. The loaded safety
features made available are seven airbags, HSA (Hill Start Assist), RISE body
structure, security alarm, immobilizer,ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD
(Electronic Brake-force Distribution), ASC (Active Stability Control), front
and rear impact bar, seatbelt pre-tensioner, adjustable seatbelt anchor, brake
assist system and auto headlamps.
The main competitors for the 2018 Mitsubishi
Outlander are Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Volkswagen
Tiguan.
